Self Sustainable CRÈCHE model – delivering skills to women and shaping healthy and safe childhood

Over the last three years, Tathapi has been running six crèches in slums of Pimpari Chinchwad Municipal Corporation in Pune district with the objective of eradicating malnutrition among children and providing health and preschool education to them. The program is supported by Volkswagen workers Council and TDH, Germany. Various activities and programs have been organized for the growth and development of the children. The Crèches are like a second home for the children. They were established with the aim of reducing the burden on women so that they can find the lost opportunities due to the responsibilities and have some time to themselves.

Inauguration of training program for women to run self sustainable crèches

Crèches are one of the best options to ensure the safety and rights of children. With experience in running crèches over the last three years, Tathapi realized that, there is need of permanent and sustainable crèches in all the poor localities. Also this might be a good opportunity for women to find a self employment with minimum risks and maximum dignity. However, there is the need of trained women who can professionally run self-sustainable crèches. Considering this need Tathapi has taken an initiative to start the ‘Model Crèches’ where training and initial support (for ex. A kit including tools to measure and document height and weight such as weighing scales, posters, toys, IEC material and other necessary stationary items) is being provided to women to establish the model crèches in their vasti.

Tathapi, in collaboration with Akhil Bhartiy Janavadi Mahila Sanghatan, in Pune, a national women’s organisation, inaugurated this training program for women to run self sustainable crèches on the occasion of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar's birth anniversary, the 14th of April, 2016.
